Hello! My name is Jackie and I’m from San Jose, California. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish Studies from Santa Clara University and a 100 hour TESL certificate from Oxford Seminars. I have been teaching English for the past 7 years; 1 year in an English Center in Cusco, Peru; 1 year in a school for adults in Bangkok, Thailand and about 6 years online with students from multiple countries. I believe that learning should be done in a low-stress environment so I try to embrace my students and make them feel welcome in my classroom. I do a lot of cheering to praise them and build their confidence. I use humor because it’s one of the best ways to connect to people and it helps students engage in class. I also use props and other things, like digital pictures that I think could help students better understand what I am talking about. I always make concept checking questions throughout class because there’s nothing worse than sitting there trying to understand what someone is saying but not really understanding. When I’m not in the classroom I am learning languages and traveling. I speak fluent Spanish, conversational Italian and am learning French. I love it and it has taught me a lot about what it means to be learning a language so it has formed a lot of what I do in my own classroom when I’m teaching. There’s nothing like your own experience to help you understand another’s experience. That’s a little bit about me. Thank you so much and I hope to see you in the classroom soon!
