I have 10+ years experience as an academic support specialist most recently helping students develop skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking. Currently, I teach at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA, Chabot College in Hayward, CA, and have taught at Heritage High School in Brentwood, CA. My patient, empathetic, and student-centered approach makes me and ideal match for people with learning differences, those who’s first language is not English, and adults who have returned to school after a hiatus. Working with me, students can expect that we assess a common goal, consider examples of what that goal looks like when completed, and break the process of meeting it into small, achievable parts. As mentioned, I consider my approach to be “student centered” which means that I am there to meet students where they are at, supporting them with advice, strategies, and an encouraging presence that will cultivate one’s own agency and scholarly freedom. In this way, I like to think of myself as a collaborator rather than an administer of instruction. Meetings with me can be held over Zoom or similar platforms as well as the household in which the student resides.
