Hi there..
This is Emine Akkus. Here are some info about me..
I received my BA degree in History from The Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University Istanbul, Turkey, in July
1997. I was employed as a high school history teacher in Turkey until I moved to the U.S. in 2007. In
August 2010, I entered Graduate School at the University of Texas in Dallas, and earned a MA degree
with my thesis “The United States, The Cuban Missile Crisis, and Turkey.” Being fluent in both English
and Turkish, I can access relevant texts and media in both languages. I also have intermediate levels of
Arabic and German. My professors at University of Texas, the prestigious Professors Stephen G. Rabe,
Nils Roemer and Dr. Emire Cihan Muslu, encouraged me to teach in US schools to share my knowledge
and my passion for history and multicultural understanding.
I earned my California teaching credentials in August 2014. Since then, my experience teaching in
California includes World History, U.S. History and Government, and Psychology in various High schools
including summer schools. Through my teaching experience in California schools, I was able to establish
respectful teacher-students relations, collaborate with numerous teachers along with administrators.
While pursuing my formal education, I have gained breadth and depth of knowledge in a variety of areas
applicable to teaching history and social sciences: the Holocaust, Middle East history, Islamic and Jewish
studies, Church and State relations, US-Latin American relations, and modernity. I love teaching and am
eager to contribute my enthusiasm for and in depth knowledge of the studies of history and social
science to students.
As well as the classroom responsibilities, I would be honored to establish a Model UN program at the
school. This can be done as an after-school, extra-curricular program or as an accredited class. I have
excellent resources for Model UN through my participation with the United Nations Association.
I have been tutoring World History. US. History, US Government and CSET,CBEST, CLAD.
