Hello. I have been tutoring students (K-college) for decades. Teaching is one of my passions in life. I love helping students learn and become more independent in their thinking as they gain confidence in themselves. I am very patient and friendly.
Tutoring has been the one passion that has been a constant in my life. Initially, I started working for a tutoring company, The Buddy System. After some time, just by word of mouth, I built a client base in SF and the peninsula. I tutored students in K-12 academics and college prep exams (SAT/ACT). I've also tutored a couple of college students in statistics. My students have gotten accepted into Yale University, Brown University, UC Santa Barbara, Northwestern University (full scholarship to study finance), Gonzaga University, Texas A&M, Fordham University, and many others. I have one student that scored a perfect 800 on SAT math and is attending UC Santa Barbara for applied mathematics (after turning down Harvard). Most of my students have gone on to do amazingly well and I am extremely proud of each and every one of them.
To me, it is important to help children achieve, and since every child learns differently, to find the unique way that helps each child succeed. It feels amazing when children are proud of themselves for learning something that will help them in their future successes.
Just briefly, I received my Bachelor's degree in neurobiology/physiology and minor in psychology from UC Davis. I did my master's course work in molecular biology at SJSU. I was a scientist and did research at Stanford and UCSF. I later went into teaching math and science at Mercy High School and Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory in SF. After teaching, I decided to pursue another passion of mine (health care), and recently graduated from nursing school. In that regards, I am certified in child/adult CPR and first aid, BLS, and ACLS.
The pandemic has disrupted the educational system and learning is even more difficult now as more responsibility has been placed on our children quite abruptly. I have seen this in my own household, where I have spent the weekends working with my own stepchildren (high school student at Albany HS and 5th grader at Cornell Elementary School) keep up with their academics. I would like to help your kids as well.

Melissa was an amazing tutor and was able to help me in a way that I learned best. I think I learned more from her than from my own professor
