Elementary Math and Reading & Comprehension tutor

Hello! I am an experienced teacher currently teaching 1st grade in Ahwatukee. I hold a professional elementary education certificate from the State of Arizona with a structured English immersion endorsement. I also tutor students in elementary reading and math. As a classroom teacher for 5 years to students six to eight years old I have helped struggling students achieve reading and math proficiency. As your childs tutor I will discover their unique learning style and preferences to make learning fun! As part of my tutoring services I provide daily activities that students can work on to help them gain mastery of reading and math at an accelerated pace.

I know that not all students learn in the same way. I use an Orton-Gillingham approach which is appropriate for all learners including students with dyslexia (diagnosed or suspected). This style of phonics instruction incorporates a multisensory approach which is ideal for students with ADHD or short attention spans. I teach phonics, fluency, and comprehension using fun and engaging curriculum and games. Students will develop a love for reading as their skills improve and they discover the worlds of adventure and knowledge that can be found through reading. I make math engaging by breaking content into small easy to master skills. Students will learn not only math strategies but will develop a deeper conceptual understanding of numbers.
