I have been a dyslexia interventionist for eight years and taught Composition one and two for two years at SEARK. I have been a tutor for twelve years. I now use a teaching method called Connections Orton-Gilingham 3D for dyslexics. I also trained in Comprehension and Fluency in Connections designed for dyslexics.
My favorite achievements include my students. One dyslexic kindergartner was at the bottom of her class, and after intervention, she is now in the fourth grade reading at a 6.8 grade level. Another kindergartner had dyslexia and expressive language disorder. She did not even know her alphabet and couldn't count to ten. After one year of intensive intervention, she went bak to school as a straight A student, and now attends a high school prep school. Lastly, one student with a failing grade came from a broken home, and my supervisor wanted to remove her from the University. I strongly advocated for her and he gave us a semester. I became her tutor, her friend, and her support system. My student received a scholarship to Oxford University and came to my private courthouse wedding.
I am passionate, compassionate, diligent, and dedicated to children with dyslexia or struggling readers It is my passion, and I don't want to do anything else. It is my calling..
On a lighter note, I enjoy spending time with my family. We love the Ozark Mountains and float the Buffalo River at least twice a year. We always stay at a place called Azeala Falls. We sit on the deck and watch the waterfall and just relax. We hope to retire there someday.
