I am an American Studies Ph.D., and over the years, I have taught a great number and range of English, Writing and U.S. History courses to a very diverse body of students in the New York/New Jersey Area.
I work as a private tutor working with students ranging from middle school to graduate school on English, Writing, U.S. History, SAT Reading and Writing, and ACT English. I am presently working as an online tutor providing college essay coaching. I also tutor Chinese students in English online. Additionally, I work as a freelance writer, editor, and proofreader.
From 2014-2016, I worked for Honors Review and Advanced Education Institute (both located in Marlboro, NJ) as an individual and class tutor in a range of subjects.
My teaching philosophy is grounded in the desire and firm commitment to give what I know to my students and based in the belief that, above all, education must be an empowering process for students.
I am expert in English grammar and punctuation. I am fluent in the various rhetorical modes – both as a teacher and writer – and I have an acute awareness of, as well as technical skill with, the ever-changing and newly developing platforms for student and professional writing in the twenty-first century.
I developed and taught an American Studies course (U.S. History and Literature) at FIT. I also have a wealth of experience teaching English Composition, Developmental, and other writing courses at both county colleges and universities.
Four years ago, I wrote a writing curriculum for the KEC Learning Center in Warren, NJ. I then implemented the course, working with middle and high school students on both expository and creative writing.
I find classroom teaching and one-on-one tutoring equally challenging and rewarding.
