My name is Liz DeFinnis. I live in Southeastern Florida with my husband and 2 little boys. I graduated from Capella University with a PhD in Psychology in 2018. I also have a MS in Occupational Therapy and BS in Psychology. I have 2 years experience in teaching in higher education online and in an on-ground classroom.
As a tutor, it is my goal to facilitate learning on a deep level that involves critical thinking and allows for synthesis of the information covered in the class. Challenging my tutees to engage in critical thinking through application of the topics to real life circumstances is my main focus in tutoring. Having an opportunity to connect new educational topics to real life situations results in successful learning outcomes!
I ensure that a collaborative learning approach is utilized when tutoring as it is an ideal method for developing the energy needed to create a positive learning environment. I remain approachable to tutees to provide not only knowledge but also as a source of support for finding additional resources as needed. Self-reflection and goal writing activities are excellent methods utilized on a regular basis to promote learning success!
