About Allen

My mission: To empower students with the academic, social, and organizational skills they need to become independent learners.

My Background: With top graduate credentials, intensive training from Teachers College (Columbia University) and 12 years of teaching experience, I deliver a customized tutoring system that caters to each student’s strengths, learning styles, and needs.

My Philosophy: I believe that children possess complete competence, limitless potential, and the innate ability to construct their own meaning of their experiences. Therefore, goals can be met in ways that build on students’ questions and interests, engaging them in problem solving and critical thinking, and applying those skills to real-life situations. My role as an educator and mentor is to provide such learning experiences by tailoring instruction to each child’s individual strengths, learning styles and interests.

Mindfulness: With 15 years of meditation training and extensive research on the effects of mindfulness on children’s academic performance, I combine Mindfulness with achievement of content-specific curriculum goals. For example, I teach specific breathing techniques to increase focus and energy levels and decrease stress and anxiety.

My mission: To empower students with the academic, social, and organizational skills they need to become independent lifelong learners.

My Philosophy: I have a strong belief that every human being possesses complete competence, limitless potential, and the innate ability to construct meaning of his or her experiences. Therefore, I invite my students to meet their goals by building on their questions and interests, engaging them in problem solving and critical thinking, and applying those skills to real-life situations. I provide such learning experiences by tailoring instruction to the student's individual strengths and learning styles.

Mindfulness: With 15 years of meditation training and extensive research on the effects of mindfulness on academic performance, I integrate the practice of Mindfulness with achievement of content-specific curriculum goals.
