About Emily

Welcome to my page! I will use the space below to discuss some main points/concerns that most students/parents have when looking for someone that will teach and mentor them/their children.

1. History of prior and current student progress:
I have tutored kids that have suffered with their courses (i.e., C or D grade in their course) and given them skills to better their overall study habits and raise their grades. My main tool is teaching my students that they are capable of doing well in courses; I do this by teaching them through ways that allow them to savor the information and think critically about it. I do not condone the current education system’s method of teaching children to memorize things for their exams only; I want my students to not only do well in their courses, but to consolidate the facts they are learning for their own creative knowledge and critical thinking skills.

One example I may give you is about one of my current students. He found me two years ago (at the beginning of 10th grade) when he was severely struggling with math. He had always averaged a D+/C- in these courses. Initially, we spent 4 hours together per week, where I prepared him for exams and taught him fascinating ways to consolidate information. Ever since, he has been receiving top marks on all of his exams and assignments. For the last 4 semesters, he has received an overall of 96-98% (A or A+) in his math courses. His other grade trends have improved thanks to the skills I have taught him, but they would not have fell into place without his effort. This is the most important thing about tutoring: the student must be putting in effort to improve and must be practicing the tutor’s study techniques on their own time. My goal is to ensure that students are learning the material, thinking critically about it, and bettering their study habits.

2. What, how, why is your teaching method successful for students?
My teaching method is successful for students because it gives them skills to apply to all areas of academia. I often switch roles with the student; I make them teach me the things they are struggling with, which with my techniques, allows both the student and me to see where the student needs the greatest practice. From here, I use a skilled plan to ensure students are learning.

3. How can I benefit from choosing you as my tutor?
Tutoring allows me to channel my engaging personality and passion for sharing knowledge with others. I have an unremitting work ethic and optimistic character that encourages my students to continue pushing themselves towards excellence. My willingness to reflect allows me to strengthen my role as a tutor, as well as a friend, to all students. My experience and humility have allowed me to maintain the appropriate balance of professionalism and friendliness with my students and employers.

I am an experienced tutor who has worked with students from grades 1-12 and college. I have worked independently, through schools, and through companies. Parents appreciate me for my clear teaching techniques, encouragement, and patience; students appreciate me for my understanding and kindness in times of confusion. Allow me to help you/your child grow their critical thinking skills, acquire greater knowledge, and succeed!

I hope to empower others to gain and share their knowledge. I will push you to remain strong mentally and reach goals that you never thought feasible! Contact me so we can discuss your personal plan for success.
