I am a Doctor of Medicine (MD) by profession and I have been tutoring students the subjects of Math, Science (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) for a total of 7 to 9 years on a part-time basis, depending on the subject. Also, for more than a year I have been tutoring French language (from beginner to high-intermediate level). My students range from high-school to postgraduate level.
Whenever I found time to teach students outside of my hectic work schedule, it was always a rewarding experience for me. As for my students, I give maximum input to make sure they are satisfied and walk away from a lesson with a new concept or strategy that they did not possess beforehand.
Tutoring for me is an interaction on a human level first and foremost. My purpose is to show the concept and solidify it, not to reiterate information which the student is perfectly capable of doing himself or herself. Another important point which I stress is increasing the motivation of a student by finding something that really interests the learner besides just the goal of passing the exam or fulfilling an objective. That way, it promotes long-term desire not just to learn, but to master the material. That philosophy is behind my every lesson or session.
