Middle Level ISEE Exam Strategy

ISEE Overview
The independent school entrance exam is administered to grades 2-12 to test their academic proficiency in a variety of subjects. The ISEE is broken into primary level, lower level, mid level, and high level based on grade level and in this course we will highlight the content in the middle level exam. Scoring is based on how many questions are answered correctly and students are not penalized for wrong answers. It's important to always answer the question- even if you are guessing.

Lesson 1: Algebra
The math portion of the exam covers both quantitative reasoning and mathematics achievement concepts. In this unit, we will review the foundation of algebraic equations as it pertains to the middle level ISEE. You will be introduced to a range of algebraic word problems in preperation for the exam.

Lesson 2: Measurements
Measurement problems are found in the mathematics achievement portion of the ISEE middle level exam. Attention to detail and problem solving are key aspects of successfully completing the measurements portion of the exam. You will need to master formulas in determining measurements and this unit will help you get there!

Lesson 3: Numbers and Operations
Numbers and operations problems are found in the mathematics achievements section of the middle level ISEE exam . You will need to learn both numbers and operations: whole numbers as well as numbers and operations: decimals, percents, and fractions to optimize your score in this section.

Lesson 4: Data Analysis and Probability
Data analysis and probability concepts are found in the mathematics achievement section of the exam. In this unit, you'll learn to collect, display, and interpret a set of data to best answer questions. I'll walk you, step by step, through a sample probability problem where you will learn to implement these strategies.

Lesson 5: Geometry
Geometry concepts will be found in the quantitative reasoning portion of the ISEE exam. We'll review the importance of the characteristics and properties of geometric figures and describing those shapes. Basic geometric equations will help you complete this section with the highest level of proficiency.

Your understanding and use of synonyms is determined by the verbal reasoning portion of the middle level ISEE exam. This section can be challenging without the proper preparation and understanding the positive/neutral/negative strategy. In this unit, you will be introduced to this strategy that I hope you will continue to hone in preparation for taking the ISEE.

Lesson 2: Sentence Completion
Sentence completion is the second concept found in the verbal reasoning section of the middle level ISEE exam. Initially, it's best to try and answer the question independently of evaluating the answers. You'll complete this section faster and with a higher level of proficiency by implementing strategy.

Lesson 3: Reading Comprehension
Reading and comprehension comprises a majority of the verbal section of the exam. It's important to read the passage, in full, before evaluating any answers. This strategy allows you to absorb more of the passage and more efficiently determine the most appropriate answer!
