English (K-8) and High School Level English tutor

About Michelle

I am a current student at Florida International University (graduating in December). I have studied English, Political Science, and General and Digital Marketing. My GPA is a 3.6 and my areas of specialized expertise (for adult students) are U.S.-Cuba relations, Latin America and the Caribbean, Exile Studies, Human Rights, and Professional/Pre-Law Studies-- I have earned certificates in addition to my BA and minor degree in these areas. I have held professional positions in my field (for more information, you may refer to my LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/michelleprado) so I understand how scholarly work translates to "the real world" and am looking to pass that on to my students. I am able to tutor K-12 in reading comprehension, writing, government, U.S. history, and college readiness. I am able to tutor adult students in English (specifically in the tracks of literary theory, creative writing, artistic analysis, and film analysis) and Political Science or International Relations. I am fluent in Enlgish and Spanish (both reading and writing). My teaching philosophy is to look at how my students learn, create a learning plan that uses their strengths to target their weaknesses, and set up metrics to measure progress. I ask my students what they want to see in terms of results and will cater to those goals with my expertise. I believe in teaching so my students become versed in their subjects, and not simply teaching to pass tests. That being said, I understand that testing is a large measure of success in school and will work with my students to improve their test taking skills if such is needed. I am currently taking online students, but will consider in person tutoring at a library or near the FIU area if requested.
