I am a biologist interested in the processes that maintain tropical forest diversity. Specifically, I'm fascinated by how microbial interactions with plants can influence forest dynamics in terms of plant function & species distributions. My research involves field &/or greenhouse experiments & molecular ecology, including next-gen sequencing & culturing, to study microbial communities associated with plants. My master's thesis: I'm studying the fungal communities that infect seeds of tropical trees through bioinformatic analyses of DNA-sequencing data in R, Python, & other bio-info programs.
Teaching is my passion. I get great satisfaction from having when I see my students understand a subject and get a smile on their face. I love to enable people to attain skills that make them feel good about themselves.
