In Baton Rouge, they have their own way of pronouncing things. With all of the French, Cajun, and Creole influences, the city has a language of their own. For example, I would be very confused if someone said they were going to add a lagniappe. Without a pronunciation guide, I would have pronounced that “lag-knee-ape” instead of the “lan-yap” that flows off your tongue like molasses. You might also realize that they have another way of spelling “go” because they use the Cajun -eaux suffix to say “Geaux Tigers!”
