About Victor

I worked for five years in IT, primarily as a Network Engineer at two of Northern Virginia's largest financial institutions and as a Technology Consultant with an iconic Fortune 50 technology company on a contract with one of the Federal government's largest healthcare agencies. By night, I completed graduate coursework in Computer Science and Computer Engineering, as well as Operations Research and Applied Mathematics, at George Mason University in Fairfax; today, I am enrolled in distance learning courses in Mathematics through the University of Idaho and the University of Iowa as I prepare for a dual degree graduate program in Mathematics and Computer Science. I have earned a number of IT certifications, including CompTIA's Network+, Security+, Server+, and CSA+, as well as the Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician and the Cisco Certified Network Associate Cyber Ops certifications; in 2018, I am working on earning the Cisco Certified Network Associate Routing and Switching certification, as well as Juniper's JNCIA-Junos and JNCIA-Cloud certifications and CompTIA's Linux+ certification, and I expect to complete these certifications by the end of Q3'18.

Previously, I earned a B.S. in Computer Science at the University of Virginia, where I searched as a Teaching Assistant and Grader for undergraduate courses in Java programming and in Computer Networks. During my summers, I completed mathematics classes (including Calculus II and III, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Mathematics) at the Alexandria campus of Northern Virginia Community College. I also graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology in Alexandria, Virginia, whee I spent my eighth period activity blocks helping sixth- and seventh-grade students complete their homework, editing the "In Brief" section of the school's award-winning newspaper tjTODAY, and serving as a student government council member and information technology specialist.

Since late 2014, I have tutored high school and college students in Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, and everything in between! Although I initially worked with students one-on-one in Northern Virginia, the technology needed to connect with learners at great distances has advanced to the point where I now work with students throughout the United States. Prior engagements have included helping students get unstuck programming classical data structures in Java, preparing for the AP Computer Science A exam, learning pointers and references in C and C++, and implementing and troubleshooting dynamic routing protocols in Cisco's Packet Tracer as part of training for various Cisco certifications. Furthermore, as I am almost always learning new things in my field, if there's something that you need help with, the chances are good that I may "figure it out" and package the concepts together in a way that better illuminates your understanding and helps you achieve your goals.

Thinking of working with me? There's a few things that you should keep in mind: every moment is a learning experience. Every...single...moment. Expect nothing; anticipate much. Chill. There are times to stress out - this is not be one of them. That said, remember that the grade you get is the grade you earn. Remember that you are only competing with yourself. Be honorable in all things; in the end, the universe tends to unfold as it should. And...always keep learning.
