About Ryan

Hello everyone! My name is Ryan and I am a recent graduate of the University of Connecticut where I studied mechanical engineering with a focus on aerospace. From my studying I have had the chance to learn many interesting topics. These topics include several different math classes like calculus and other engineering classes such as propulsion, combustion, and fluid dynamics. But getting though all these classes wasn't easy and I didn't do it alone. There were several times where I had to utilize a tutoring services to gain that extra edge to succeed and better understand the material. Its because of this experience that I decided to tutor other students as I know firsthand the positive impact a tutor can have on a students learning. I do have some previous experience tutoring high school level algebra and from this I was able to better tune my approach when it comes to tutoring students. The techniques I like to employ with students involve first reviewing class material to allow the student to ask questions and also have a chance to review the material at a slower rate. Next, I like to invoke the use of several practice problems where the student has the chance to practice problems on their own without any aid. After the student has had the chance to approach these problems on their own, I like to then go over these problems together and work through any issues they may have had.
Another important approach in tutoring is being able to instill confidence while making the material more interesting for the student to learn. I believe my above approach helps to instill confidence by giving the student the opportunity to tackle practice problems by themselves and also allowing for a slower paced learning. This ultimately leads to a better understanding of the material, and as a result more confidence. Furthermore, I have found that relating topics to real world applications makes some topics more interesting. This has been a extreme benefit in subjects such as physics or propulsion where real world applications can be easily seen.
Lastly, I am a passionate learner and know the time and effort it takes to be a successful student. I believe with hard work and dedication anything is possible. I can be easily reached at anytime so please feel free to contact me with any questions or to schedule an appointment. Thank you!
