About Richard

Originally from Canada, I have had a diverse professional and educational background. I first completed my Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in History with a minor in Political Science from the University of Winnipeg. I then completed my Master's degree from the European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (eiuc.org) and had my Master's thesis published in recognition as the most outstanding in my graduating class. I have also been a visiting student at the University of Luxembourg as well as a Kathryn W. Davis Fellow for Peace at Middlebury College's Portuguese language school.

In addition to the publication of my thesis, I recently published an article in the journal Left History and have two others currently under review. My research centres around storytelling, social memory and political economy in South Africa as well as alternative philosophies of human rights.

I have worked, studied or conducted research in South Africa, Kosovo, Sierra Leone, Kyrgyzstan, Luxembourg, Italy, the United States and of course, Canada.

My writing has been featured by platforms including Open Democracy, Daily Maverick and Ricochet.

Lastly, as a tutor and editor, I have worked with clients from the secondary to graduate school levels as well as with book manuscripts, theses, dissertations, peer-reviewed articles, op-eds, and funding applications.

I love to learn and would love to share this with you.
