I have an extensive background in music theory, composition, and arranging. I was hired as a music theory and aural skills tutor in my sophomore year at Lawrence University's Conservatory of Music, and I spent 10-15 hours a week tutoring my classmates or teaching music theory/aural skills classes when professors were absent.
In my own studies, I was fortunate enough to study jazz arranging and composition with the late great Fred Sturm, and I took improvisation lessons with Bill Carrothers. I've composed and arranged for big band, jazz combo, concert band, and chamber ensemble. My pieces have been rehearsed, recorded, or performed with Lawrence University's Jazz Band, Jazz Ensemble, and saxophone studio, previously with the Ithaca High School concert band and jazz band, and in numerous personal projects and Lawrence faculty coached chamber ensembles.
I am very passionate about teaching. In addition to my tutoring experience at Lawrence, I have taught private lessons on my major instruments, saxophone and drumset, and I have worked as a visiting artist at the EAC Montessori School of Ithaca, transcribing music on commission to rehearse and perform with two different ensembles.
