I am very intrigued as well as interested in the youth development approach of education in the efforts of helping youth gain new possibilities in their lives. I’ve always been interested in working with poverty stricken areas/groups and ultimately fostering young people’s growth having worked with different non- profit organizations from Harlem Educational Activities Fund (HEAF) to The All Stars Project Inc., Jump In-Enrichment, City Year New York as an Ameri Corps Member at an elementary school in the Bronx, and a private tutor with WyzAnt Tutoring. I believe that these positions are the perfect answer for me in solidifying my future career path of becoming a youth advocate. As having such a large interest in working with the elementary school age and the middle school age population, I believe that programs such as this one is just an avenue in which these two specific age groups can flourish and grow as positive individuals in their communities with the guidance of teachers and mentors.
Being a part of this organization and applying for this position will solidify my career path as a youth advocate as stated above, in addition to seeing and working with an organization that gives their devotion and countless amounts of skills to improving young children and teens. I want to give young people the confidence and the will to work hard as I strive to do my best as I talk with parents, grade homework, create and shape lesson plans, and share my smiles throughout the day reassuring that I will always be there. The kids are my motivation to break the chain of so many holding this view that school is not an option in their lives when in fact it is. I want to see my kids grow up with endless possibilities and know that you can change the world just go out there and apply yourself.
