About Michelle

My name is Michelle and I am an Educational Assistant (Paraprofessional) for the New York City Department of Education. I have been a Paraprofessional for over 7 years. I enjoy teaching immensely. I reside in the Bronx, NY area. I have had the privilege of working with students from Pre-Kindergarten to 2nd grade. I have also tutored students for over 10 years from Pre-Kindergarten to 6th grade. In those 10 years, I have been a part of various after-school programs providing homework help and tutoring services.

I have a BS in Recreation Education with a minor in English. I am extremely passionate about supporting second language learners. I am about to complete my second Masters in TESOL. As a second language educator, I have taught native Spanish speakers gain literacy and proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing in English. I also have provided services to special needs or below average students and have equipped them with reading and math skills and test-taking strategies to meet the academic standards and pass the New York State examinations in reading and math.

My teaching philosophy involves investigating the different learning styles of my students while allocating resources to support their learning. Developing a strong rapport with my students is the foundation for my instruction. My strong communication, interpersonal, critical thinking and problem-solving skills are the tools I use to teach all my students. These qualities have been able to reach students who have through the years lost an interest in learning. This philosophy of teaching has offered me the opportunity to work in other private tutoring agencies. I strongly believe that providing students with an equitable quality education while empowering them to take ownership of their education is essential. When students are empowered to reach their highest potential they can meet expected academic standards.

When I am not providing private tutoring services, I enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends. Listening to live music, song or dance is one of my most pleasurable forms of entertainment.

I look forward to be given the opportunity to partner with you and your child to meet their educational goals and achieve his/her highest academic potential. I am available to tutor after regular school hours on Wednesday through Friday and on Saturday.
