About Ty

I am the author of eight published novels, most of which are written for middle grade or young adult readers. I teach creative writing to adults and am currently teaching Chess to elementary and middle school students. I have visited nearly seventy middle schools in six states, speaking about the craft and business of authorship as well as conducting writing workshops for middle schoolers. I've been married to my best friend for 27 years and we have two grown children, one of whom will be giving my first grandchild next Spring!

My teaching style is relaxed and fun. I make it a point to get to know my students on the first session and do everything I can to put them at ease. Writing and English aren't Math. While focus is important, it's just as important to learn to relax when you're writing so that the words can come free. That's the environment I work to create.
