In the past 5 years I have worked with students from grades 2nd through 8th in math, reading and writing. I graduated from UC Santa Barbara in 2011, where I majored in Sociology and minored in Education and History. I was able to observe elementary and high school leveled classrooms and begin learning effective strategies to become a teacher. Afterwards, I returned to the Bay Area, in California, and began working for an Americorps program as a classroom support and after school class teacher. I worked with students in English and History classes and provided homework help for 30 minutes everyday after school. It was this opportunity that made me realize how much I enjoyed working with students and how necessary it is to ensure every student has access to quality education. I decided to join a teaching preparation program in Baltimore, where I earned a Masters in Education for both Elementary Education grades 1-6th and Special Education grades K-8th.
I love helping students because nothing is more rewarding than when the light bulb in their head finally turns on because you gave them to tools they needed to understand a new concept or skill. I am someone who is engaging, creative and organized who will motivate and guide students. I genuinely enjoy getting to know every student of all abilities so that I’m able to meet their needs and showcase their strengths.
I currently manage an in school tutoring center in Baltimore City, and in my spare time tutor students in elementary reading and math, middle school algebra and college writing and essay editing.
