Hi!
I'm Katie. For the past several years, I have experienced the challenges and rewards of working closely with populations of students from diverse backgrounds and with varied learning needs. I have had extensive experience in public schools and through private tutoring, and am excited to once again continue teaching as a tutor. I am a highly-qualified English teacher, and have received subsequent certifications in ESL, Middle School Humanities, Middle School Mathematics, and Moderate Disabilities, so I would be comfortable tutoring students in a variety of areas including standardized test preparation. (I am also familiar with Wilson Reading System techniques and am currently pursuing my Orton-Gillingham certification.)
I strongly believe that every child can learn, but it is necessary for a teacher to locate the optimal access points for learning. For every child to learn, all students must have meaningful access to the curriculum and a tutor can complement the responsibilities of classroom teachers by setting expectations high, while discovering how to engage, motivate, and support students in the most effective ways possible. While building a necessary foundation of skills, I seek to instill a love of language, reading, and writing in students so that they all can develop a confident, distinct voice of their own.
I am hard-working, adaptable, patient with young adults, and committed to maximizing students’ potential. I am also able to establish a strong rapport with the students I work with. I am looking forward to helping you prepare for that next test, succeed in a subject area you are struggling with, or build motivation/organizational skills so that you know you can tackle your academics with confidence!
I look forward to hearing from you.
