I am a JD and an MA who has taught English, Social Studies, and test prep to middle-schoolers in both a special-education and non-special education context. I have experience with college students and adult learners as well, conducting prep courses for the GRE and LSAT. I specialize in writing assistance and test prep (specifically SAT, GRE, and LSAT), but am also available for other subjects.
I have a collaborative teaching style that places the students' needs front and center. We work together in three stages:
First, we set our goal. It is crucial that everybody is on the same page at the beginning.
Second, we plan what steps we will take to meet that goal. Planning helps focus attention, and avoids wasting time (and your money!) on activities that will not meet that goal.
Third, we execute! Both the student and I will work together so that we are constantly moving toward the goal.
I have a knack for making the boring captivating, and for boiling down complex tasks and ideas into something more manageable. My process (and the students' effort!) has helped people get into their dream schools, moved children from self-contained classrooms to general education, and increased students' confidence in difficult subjects.
Let's work together!
