My teaching spans over 20 years. I have worked with:
* LAUSD long-term substitute for low-grade achievers. Results: these students came to realize their talents, skills, and motivation for learning. My "troubling" kids became achievers, and attentive learners.
* Foreign expatriate children. Results: these children of foreign business professionals required English skills to attend new American-based schools. They acquired English quickly and effectively, consistently becoming top 3% of their classrooms. I have a record of success stories in seeing my students gain entrance into America's ivy league schools. Many I have stayed in touch with to have the opportunity to observe their growth and continued success.
* Foreign expatriate adult learners. Results: these adult professional learners increased their effectiveness with English in the professional capacity based on their industries. Lessons provided real-life scenarios in business based on their roles and responsibilities: field chef for Norms' Restaurants, Regional Director for 5.11 Tactical, etc.
My background is an international one. I was born and lived in Europe and the United States, having been taught in private and public school systems through the State Department. Therefore, my learning had always been in international classroom environments. I provide superior learning experiences, with expansive background and multi-cultural experience and knowledge. I bring out communication, and critical thinking skills from my students.
For recreation and to balance my life, I compete in watersport competitions around the world and across the US, as an outrigger canoe paddler, and Team USA dragon boat paddler. I also run in 5k's, trail races, and half-marathons (as part of my training); enjoy hiking throughout the year, and snowshoeing during the winter. As for traveling, I have traveled for research and recreation, where it is easier to say where I have NOT been rather than where I HAVE been.
I am flexible for online and face-to-face instruction.
