Qualifications & Experience

Hi! My name is Kristin and I have been tutoring math for 10 years. I got my Math degree from UC San Diego and teaching credentials from Cal State San Marcos. I pursued my multiple-subject credentials while in the program and got lots of experience working with younger children. But my heart still lied in math, so I proceeded to get my single-subject math credentials and eventually became a middle-school Math teacher. I currently teach 8th grade math, but have also taught math in 6th and 7th grade, and temporarily taught Geometry and Calculus.

It is my belief that students learn best when they understand the "why" behind mathematics. During tutoring sessions, I like to emphasize not only procedural fluency (how you do the problem), but also concept understanding (the "why" behind the math). My experience as an educator, as well as my patient and friendly demeanor, give students the confidence and tools they need to succeed in their endeavors.
