About Tonja

Every student is full of treasures! My goal is to help each student discover and develop those treasures--both in grasping and mastering the subject matter, and in seeing themselves and every skill improved as catalysts for positive change!
My love for helping others, my positive energy, and my multi-faceted experience in education, the arts, and business serve me well, to serve others well.
For many years, I served as a teacher in: public and private schools (including full-time teaching of 325+ fifth and sixth graders in a large public middle school how to read, play, and perform piano music, and later, full-time English and math to 4th graders); my daughter’s homeschool (core and essentials) for 6th and 7th grades; many small and medium-sized groups and individuals in many subjects (profit and nonprofit).
I have years of formal study through various programs, including 18 hours toward an MAT in elementary education from a state university (SAU), and other formal state training in an alternative program. In addition, I have many CEUs as I taught in public schools. Besides that, I've been teaching since I was 13, and just continuing to improve my finesse and knowledge in how to help others learn!
Online teaching has been very rewarding for me the past couple of years. I've taught core subjects; ESL; public speaking; writing; study skills; and more, to students in the USA and eight other countries.
Writing books is another deeply meaningful endeavor. I have self-published more than 10 books and 770 articles, and have written more than that (I must get busy and finish these works). I highly enjoy encouraging students in their writing and publishing. If I can have my first writing published when I was 10, so can your student!
Although my 80-year-old mom insists that, when I was 8 and my brother 5, I taught him to read and swim when no one else could, I don't remember it and he won't admit it, so we'll start with me teaching officially at age 13; piano lessons, for cash (Great idea, Mom!). I’m a few years over 13. ? The rest, as “they” say, is (delightful, most moment!) history.
I’d love to help YOUR student change their history for good, so contact me today!
