I have taught GED as college faculty for six years, and most of that time is spent on math because it is what students struggle with the most. I have had great success teaching geometry, algebra, and other high school math like quadratic formula, graphing, basic statistics, probability, etc. I have extensive experience working with a variety of learning styles and students with ADD/ADHD. At 15, my nephew moved in because he was failing high school, and I tutored him for three years to ensure he would graduate, which he did. He struggled with math and writing.
I am an excellent writer and can help with that, too. I have helped students compose scholarship-winning essays, and in graduate school, I was the go-to peer editor for essays and projects.
Lastly, I am proficient in Spanish and have a bachelor's degree in Spanish and French. I studied abroad in Argentina and have also traveled to Mexico, Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Uruguay. I taught GED in Spanish -- so teaching math, reading and writing to Spanish speakers -- and can tutor all levels of Spanish, too!
A little about me: I am very stubborn and won't let my students fail. I am a very passionate teacher; this is not my side job, this is my career. But don't be fooled -- I am also fun, and learning should not be torture! I meet students where they are and love to help students on their path to success. I have also taught CPR, motorcycle training, photography and beginning martial arts. I struggled greatly with math as a kid, so I understand the frustration many students face, too.
Thanks for considering me as your tutor!

I honestly can't say enough about Lauren. All through school I had a hard time learning. Especially math. Led to me dropping out my 10th grade year. When I met Lauren, I did not expect to get far again. But she taught me to believe in myself, gave me confidence and self worth. I've never met a teacher like her before. She made learning fun and exciting for the first time. She showed me that I can go for my dreams and actually succeed, and that I'm worth it. I met her at one of the worst times in my life. But I met her with a goal, one I held onto and never thought I could achieve. She showed me the way. Lauren Zavrel is the best teacher I have ever had and those don't come along very often for a girl like me. I needed to be pushed, in a positive way and she did that. I am forever grateful for her and honored to have been one of her students!a year ago
Lauren helped me push to earn my GED right before the test changed in 2014. She met me where I was -- I asked for piles of math homework, and she gave it to me! She stayed with me after classes to make sure I understood as much as I needed to pass the test. Lauren is as dedicated as you are as her student. I was 200% committed to getting my test done, so she was 200% dedicated to me. She is patient but also knows what she is talking about. There was no question she did not know how to answer. Today I have my GED because of her.a year ago

I never thought I would pass the GED math test. Lauren never gave up on me. I have a history of getting in trouble and I have bad ADHD. But Lauren pushed me and saw that I was smart. I passed the math test because of her, and now I am more motivated than ever to finish my GED. She is the best teacher I have ever had.a year ago
