About Max

I'm Max, a professional educator with a passion for writing, foreign language, and college prep/counseling. I have worked in many aspects of education, around the US and around the world, for over 20 years now and have served as a teacher, trainer, adviser, counselor, and mentor to a wide range of students, from middle school to college-age, and non-traditional students.

I have bilingual fluency in English and Spanish, and can provide tutoring in both languages, as well as tutoring for Spanish language learners. My tutoring expertise covers several subject areas, including English and Writing, Spanish, Study and Exam Skills, and College Prep and Counseling (advising and support with college applications, choosing a school/major, planning college visits).

I adore one-on-one tutoring, and enjoy engaging my students with real-world examples and problems to guide their learning, and to allow my students to understand and appreciate the relevance of skills and subject matter in their everyday lives, and the lives of others. I also am known and loved for injecting humor into my tutoring work in a way that keeps things fun and fresh.

I am bilingual in English and Spanish, and also speak Portuguese. I am a guitarist and banjo player, and avid lover of bluegrass (and many other genres of) music, tennis, cooking, travel, and word games. I spent many years as a director of study abroad programs in a variety of different countries, and am a parent of two children, 3 and 13. I get immense satisfaction from helping young people learn, grow, & discover.
