I am currently a senior at GMU expected to graduate this fall with a bachelor’s degree in community health with a concentration in clinical science. In high school I was part of the national, math, spanish, and art honor society each of which required me to tutor fellow peers in the subjects they struggled with. Working with different subjects allowed me to understand the material better while also becoming a better tutor as I continued to tutor.
When I got to college I began tutoring for Fairfax county public schools for both middle and high schools. I have taken extensive science course that have helped me form better studying habits that I have shared with students, so that the tutoring isn’t limited to the time spent in the class. Even though my expertise lies more in science, I would help students with any subject that needed more attention. During which I learned that part of being a good tutor is having knowledge of a wide range of subjects. With the experience of both, different subjects and age groups, I have become adapt to many learning methods. Always acknowledging that every person learns in their own ways and as a tutor it is my job to facilitate that process with experiences I’ve had.
