Values Statement
Socrates is the ultimate model for any teacher to follow. When the Greek Philosopher questioned he focused learning as a teaching force for people to emulate and follow. Therefore, he set the highest moral standard possibe. He did this through objective interaction with others. A careful examination of these encounters also suggests the Socratic notion of “Know thyself.” In short, the individual is asked to reflect upon his or her behavior and actions. These encounters serve as the best teaching models and foundation for liberal arts.
The above statements show what teachers can strive to achieve. In order to approximate this standard, the teacher must encourage critical thinking of the responses students give, and also to examine the instructional response to the work. This idea suggests the idea that all of us are works in progress. The best teacher not only instructs, but learns from the students. Thereby, the teacher plays many roles. The teacher is the learner, the knower, the cheerleader, the father confessor and a humble model for his students. The initimacy of the online environment is often expressed in simple words and prompt responses that melts away the physical distance and visual anonymity. The power of one’s words can give students a path and hope for their lives; even if it is miniscule gesture.
Therefore, these values stress the intangibles that rules and job objectives cannot state. It looks at the situational when the instructor must make a personal call on the matter. It transcends the subject and speaks to the humanity we ought to bring in any classroom.
