Qualifications & Experience

My name is Stephen Ferrara and I am a 37 year old father of two young boys living in Tarrytown, NY. I have been teaching in North Rockland Central School District for 16 years as a 5th grade teacher. During my tenure, I have taught all subjects, but most recently I have been teaching math and science. If I (or my students) had to describe my teaching style, the words energetic and engaging would definitely apply. I love working with kids and helping them get over the barriers that hold them back in the classroom. I have worked with all types of learners and have knowledge in various approaches to teaching. For the past 5 years I have been the lead curriculum designer for the district's math curriculum. During this time I have been responsible for creating performance tasks, assessments and lesson plans.
On a personal level, I have been married for 5+ years and have two young boys ages 2+ and 8 months. On top of being a school teacher, I have also been coaching a top ranked Division II golf team for the past 11 years.
If you have any questions please feel free to reach out. I am available to work most days after 3:30pm. I

I really can't thank you enough for the year you have given Olivia. You are an amazing teacher who really goes above and beyond with your students. Even though Olivia is painfully shy, you took the time to get to know her as a person and student. You were able to help her break out of her shell, and really achieve success. Olivia felt so connected to school this year, and as a result, she felt confident and inspired to achieve her best. We feel so grateful that Olivia had such a wonderful year. You definitely make a difference in the lives of your students. Your kindness and encouragement has truly touched her life, and I am sure she will always remember this year.

Stephen is a teacher like no other. He often shares his stories of why he became a teacher; "to be different from the rest" he always says. To say that he is different would not do him justice. Mr. Ferrara has an innate ability to make learning fun while still teaching. If you don't understand something the way he is teaching it, he is able to quickly adjust his approach to help you better understand the concept. Mr. Ferrara is definitely one of the best!

Mr. Ferrara is the type of teacher who is able to push his students to the next level. I love math and always do well, but that wasn't enough for Mr. F. He always pushed me do go deeper, and think outside the box. He reaches ALL of his students on some level.

Mr. Ferrara is my favorite teacher for some many reasons. While most kids would say he is cool, I would say he is deeper than that. He gets kids and he knows how to reach them. I never enjoyed school until I met Mr. Ferrara. I am now a high 90's student and can attest that to Mr. Ferrara always pushing me to that next level.
