Qualifications & Experience

I received a bachelors in fine arts and certificate of art education from the School of Visual Arts in NYC. I also possess a Masters degree in education from the University of New England. I have over 18 years of experience both as an artist, art teacher, and tutor in humanities subjects. I am able to teach illustration, painting, clay, and sculpture, and am well acquainted with art history both in ancient, modern, and cultural arts and crafts. I have exposed students to watercolor, oil and chalk pastels, pencil, marker, clay and wood sculpture. my lesson plans connect with events in history as well as literature-non-fiction and fiction. I incorporate writing about art and reading to strengthen ela skills. I love tutoring because I can design a plan tailored to my students needs on an individual basis, with all attention on who is learning the material. I am patient and relate-able and take creative approaches to learning, especially for those that struggle with traditional strategies. I look forward to our artistic adventures!

Before meeting with Miss Block, I didn't think I could draw, but she let me use my imagination and also explained how to make things step by step. I still have a sneaker that I drew hanging up in my room to remind me of how I can accomplish something that I didn't think I could do. Miss Block is my favorite art teacher because she taught me how to express my feelings and is always there to listen to me when I had a problem. She is very caring and helpful.

Miss Block taught me how to write papers for my English class. I used to write like I talked and she told me that I couldn't use slang terms, but to use my vocabulary in a proper way. She showed me how to write the things that I wanted but with the proper grammar and sentence structure, how to develop an idea and clearly express it through my words. i ended up getting an A in the class! which definitely would not have happened if it wasn't for her!

Mrs. Block helped me get into Laguardia for the performing arts by using the time in class and her lunch break to prepare my portfolio. She even framed my work! She made sure all of my art was perfect and knew what the school wanted. All of her projects were fun and creative and her class was a place everyone liked to be in because she let us be ourselves.

Mrs. Block was my after school homework help teacher. She sat with me and explained how to understand what I was reading, use capitals and punctuation, and how to make sense when I wrote a paragraph. She also helped me with my social studies and math workbooks. Mrs. Block always made me feel like I could do well and made me feel comfortable. She is very patient and encouraged me a lot.
