One of the best decisions I've ever made was to return to school and become a teacher. All of the time, energy and effort was worth the success of reaching my goal, and I try to impart the same mindset in all of my students. I've worked with a variety of children ranging from high school students with emotional and behavioral challenges, middle school students with autism and severe cognitive delays, and adolescents within a hospital setting. Though all of my students vary in ability, every one of them has the potential to succeed. My responsibility as their teacher is to help them reach that potential, no matter how big or small their goals. I also believe that children benefit from a holistic approach to education. Academics are as important a focus as students' physical and socio-emotional health, and I address all of these to best reach my students. As a special education teacher, I've taught all core subjects as well as electives like Government and Ethics courses in both ICT and self-contained classes. When teaching a whole class or one-on-one, I apply real world applications to each lesson to make information accessible to every student, no matter their ability.

Ms. Schroeder is very patient. She helps me with English and Science. I am in 8th grade. She breaks assignments into chunks so I can understand little bits at a time. I ask her a lot of questions! She always repeats things until I understand them and sometimes she has me repeat them back to her. That can be hard but Ms. Schroeder pushes me to be my best. She is a very nice tutor!a year ago
Ms. Schroeder tutors me after school for Humanities and History. I am in 7th grade. This is my second year with her. I was nervous when I first met her because she made me work really hard until everything made sense to me. But she is really nice! I make a lot of mistakes but she tells me it's okay because I will get it soon! She makes me feel smart.a year ago
I have had the pleasure of working with Melanie Schroeder for the past few years. Her impact on the school community as a whole and her students is well-noted. She volunteered for roles that were vital for the safety of our students in our school. She is an amazing educator who created an inclusive community for students that did not exist before she stepped up. I highly recommend her as a tutor for all students, especially those with special needs.2 years ago
Melanie has taught my daughter Sara in both the classroom and after school as a tutor. Sara is a sophomore in high school. She struggles with reading and writing and has received low grades in those subjects until this year. Melanie takes her time in explaining ideas and uses graphic organizers to help Sara organize her thoughts. Sara's grades in English have improved this year and I think Melanie has a lot to do with that. My daughter feels confident in her skills and completes many of her assignments on her own now. I recommend Melanie for any student who has difficulty in writing or reading.2 years ago
