This is year 20 for me. I have enjoyed being a teacher and privately tutoring students every year. My style as a teacher and tutor is to remain flexible, as students learn in many different ways. I try to ensure that my students are comfortable and feel an enthusiasm for learning. Listening is important to determine what teaching style will work best, then adapting to that style to maximize and enhance their learning experience. I attended University of Maryland at College Park for my bachelor's degree in Sociology. I then earned an MEd in Education from Cambridge College and started working on my Doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction while at Argosy University. I am currently working as an 8th grade teacher in Harlem where I get a lot of fulfillment knowing that I make math understandable to students who have never succeeded in math before.
My favorite subject to tutor is Common Core, Pre-Algebra but my license is in Middle Grades Math 5th - 9th grade. I am available to get younger kids to be confident and self sufficient when it comes to the Common Core elementary math standards. I also can tutor for Algebra 1 and GED prep. I have worked with general education, special needs, and gifted students during my 20 year tenure.
I know we will be a good fit simply because, during my lifetime, every job I've ever loved had to do with working with kids. I also happen to be great at math and can help you to understand the content.
