I have taught and tutored all subjects 4th through 8th grade students. Most recently, I taught middle school math. My goal is to equip students with the conceptual understanding of all of the topics we cover so that they know why certain algorithms work and identify the one that will be most efficient. My aim is to develop flexible thinkers, strong problem-solvers and students who will continue to engage in learning and curiosity.
Here is a recommendation written by parents of a student with whom I currently work: Sheila Kanchwala works with our daughter (rising 7th grader) as a Math tutor, but more specifically, as a Math “Partner” to our daughter and family. Sheila focuses on understanding our daughter’s individualized learning process, style and challenges. She is highly collaborative and communicative and provides the appropriate level of information on our daughter’s progress. She is diligent and balanced. Our daughter looks forward to her classes with Sheila, and beyond Math, we believe that Sheila serves as a highly positive role model to our daughter. We recommend her very highly and would be happy to speak to parents in this regard.
