With more than 20 years experience teaching in a variety of capacities, including two years as a college English professor, 10 years as a music teacher, 20 years as a swim coach and swim instructor, and 10 years of tutoring with more than 5000 hours of experience working with students in a variety of subjects and disciplines, I can not only help you accomplish your short-term academic goals, but more importantly, I can teach you how learning works. There are many inaccurate beliefs about learning that continue to percolate through our culture, but modern research in the field of cognitive psychology has discovered the key factors that determine academic and later career success. These factors are grit, determination, and most importantly, incorporating elements of what is known as deep processing, a method that if properly implemented into your study regimen, will allow you to learn whether you intend to or not. My goal with my students is to empower you to realize that you are your best teacher. I specialize in general study skills and habits, writing, mathematics (I may not have a math degree, but unlike those who do have math degrees, I am able to break down complex concepts into simple, easy to understand, and replicable steps so you can see how the process works), all of the AP social science exams, AP Biology, ACT and SAT test preparation, essay writing, history, economics, government and political science, and reading and comprehension.
