I graduated from the University of Georgia in 2010 with a BS in Chemistry and a minor in German. Throughout high school and college I was a peer tutor for a variety of subjects, so it was a natural progression into becoming a teacher. Science has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I want the next generation to feel the same way.
I have taught chemistry and AP Chemistry teacher to 9-12th grades for three years now. I love helping students find the connection between what they are learning and the world around them. That AHAH moment is what makes it all worth it. I tutor pre-algebra and algebra formally for my school and am comfortable teaching and working with those who need to learn "number sense" or just those who need a little extra practice.
My SAT Math score was a 710 and SATII Math was a 720. Of course, this is many years ago, but I regularly work with my chemistry students who are in geometry, algebra 2 and pre-calculus. I formally tutor pre-algebra and algebra to struggling 8th graders at my school as an extra period.
My degree in chemistry from the University of Georgia prepared me well to tutor chemistry. I also teach it every day and have done so for three years now. I work with students in the Gifted program to those who are in regular and intensive classes.
The PSAT is mostly about test taking skills. I earned a 1500 on the PSAT, though it was many years ago. A lot of my study time was figuring out what the College Board would ask and the best way to approach a problem. In the end, it is about understanding the system. My math abilities will help me help you with the most difficult portions and I previously tutored reading and for Reading and Writing EOC.
As a certified teacher with several years of experience, I am able to work with students on their level. I have spent many hours working with students of all levels in formal and informal settings. I have an evening availability right now and would be happy to commit to a long term tutoring arrangement to help your student attain maximum academic achievement.
