My most enjoyable students is those who march to their own drummers. Young people who think outside the box and who have a great curiosity.
Much of my experience has been focused on helping learners of this kind succeed in a system that tends to reward only one of being "smart."
When I begin working with a new student, my initial goal is to learn as much as I can about approaches to learning and the problems solving skills s/he uses when learning new material. Once we are comfortable with each other, my goal becomes one of customizing and individualizing a learning plan that is unique to the needs of this individual.
