About Lori

AS A TEACHER:
I am a Certified (K-12) Special Education Teacher with more than 15 years of experience. I have been a tutor for special needs individuals, as well as general education students for 20+ years. My teaching background includes; teaching at a local high school, and then a self-contained classroom (K-5) with students who exhibited varied academic/physical ability levels and health challenges. My students ranged in cognitive abilities from 3 months of age to advanced levels. I taught every subject (and also sign language/ASL) to assist my verbal and non-verbal students with additional communication outlets. I created curriculum(all levels), programs, and visual/tactile manipulatives. I used technology, assistive technology, and communication boards, systems, and devices. My history of students included; visually impaired, Autistic Spectrum, ADHD, Bipolar disorder, IDD/Developmental delays, Down Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Epilepsy, HOH/Hearing Impaired, Prader-willi, Dyslexia, Muscular dystrophy, Auditory/Sensory/Behavioral/Developmental and Coordination disorders, Dyscalculia and Learning disabilities(all ranges) etc.
AS A TUTOR:
I assisted general education students from K-6th grade(all subjects) within the school, as well as on the weekends with students who needed additional tutoring. I used technology, manipulatives, and a variety of innovative ways to assist each student with his/her goals. I also tutored students who attended after school programs and needed test prep/subject-specific assistance. I tutored students in the general education setting who had learning disabilities(all ranges and levels), ADHD, Dyslexia, Autism, and etc. to provide them with a stronger foundation for increased confidence and success at their desired levels.
AS A VOLLEYBALL COACH & TRAINER:
I’ve had a love for volleyball since I was introduced to it at the age of 8. I have over 34 years under my belt as an athlete/volleyball player, and have played/competed from the middle school level, to club volleyball, throughout high school, 4 years at the collegiate level, and then as an adult in high-level indoor volleyball leagues(4 & 6 person), grass volleyball tournaments(4 & 6 person), and beach volleyball tournaments/competitions (2-person, levels A-AA/open).
I have been a Head JV Volleyball Coach and Co-Head Varsity Coach for 3 years, and a Head Varsity Volleyball Coach for High School Girls (Fall seasons) & Boys (Spring seasons) for over 15 years. I was a Head National Club Volleyball Coach for 2 years for 16's & 17's teams. I was an Assistant Volleyball Coach for Women's Volleyball at a local college for 2 years. I have also been the volleyball trainer for Special Olympics Volleyball for Broward County (& throughout FL), for over 20+years, and am the Special Olympics Florida Volleyball Director for the State (13 years and counting).
