About Judy

Hello Parents and Students:

I have had the opportunity to tutor students from the elementary school to the college level and, irrespective of age or background, I have come to the same conclusions. A student can learn nearly any subject so long as there is someone willing to teach them in a way that grasps their attention.

In class sizes that average anywhere between 20-35 students, one can be certain that a teacher will uniformly deliver materials in a way that suits perhaps the majority of students. Unfortunately for the small minority, they are left behind to deal with dwindling grades and even worse, diminishing self-esteem. Less talked about are the majority that end up developing a false sense of security because they are able to "get by" through cramming and rote memorization. They may pass the exams and earn the grades but down the road they often find themselves hitting mental road blocks in subjects that they never took the time to set a sturdy foundation.

This is where my passion for tutoring comes to light. I believe it is critical for students to develop a strong academic foundation that will provide them with the tools to succeed regardless of the subject matter or who is teaching it. I make it my aim to address the learning needs of each student and teach in a manner that encourages them to realize their abilities and utilize study skills in future learning.

While working toward my bachelor's degree in biology, I was employed as an academic specialist and peer counselor for entering and continuing college students. I developed curriculum that helped struggling students explore multiple learning methods unique to their individual needs. The students I worked with increased their GPAs appreciably and improved by at least one letter grade on average. I would like to continue to assist in students' academic success. I have a strong academic background in biology and psychology, and believe that in applying my combination of compassion, experience and knowledge, I can create a fun and beneficial learning experience for your student.

My experience in tutoring extends over 11+ years and has encompassed subjects in mathematics, advanced sciences, and study skills. Specifically, my subjects include AP Biology, Biology, Chemistry, Physiology, Anatomy, Geometry, Algebra I and II and basic mathematics.

In that time, I have had the opportunity to work with students ranging from elementary school through the university level in both group and one-on-one settings. Tutoring continues to serve as a rewarding experience for me. I strive to help students enjoy learning in order to build the confidence needed to achieve their full academic potential.

I look forward to helping you achieve your dreams!

Sincerely,
Judy
