Qualifications & Experience

I was born and raised in Italy. My education background is in languages and teaching. I taught in various Elementary schools in Italy for over a decade, then privately to foreign students when I moved to United States in 2006. I enjoy teaching because I love the relationship that I can build with my students, and the idea of helping them to accomplish their goals. I am also very proud of my country and its culture and love any opportunity to discuss, share and hear other opinions about it.

I own an Italian degree in Education and a Master Degree (M.A.) in Foreign Languages from the University of Turin.

I believe in learning a language through conversation, listening and practicing as much as possible. I prefer not to translate during my lessons, instead I teach by using words that you can understand from the context of a song, book or movie's extract, an ad on a magazine, etc. I believe that we learn quickly when we are "forced" to understand, somewhat like when you go to a foreign country and you have to try to communicate if they do not speak your language. I also provide the basics of the Italian grammar, but I don't ask my students to study anything by heart. My goal, with a beginner student, is to make him/her able to maintain a basic conversation in the shortest time possible. I do believe that everyone has his own skills and attitude towards foreign languages, and I respect that when I consider learning timing and expectations.
