Hi! My name is Marsha, and I graduated from California State University, Northridge with a Multiple Subjects Clear Teaching Credential and a major in Child Development. I also have a Cross-cultural Language Acquisition Development Certificate which allows me to teach non-English speaking students (both adults and children).
I got this certificate when I was teaching a modified bilingual classroom for a year. I went to a language school in Costa Rica during my off-track (vacation) time. Learning different customs and cultures is important to me. I feel it makes me a more effective teacher.
Children are our future and opening their minds is always an exciting time. I love the challenge of grabbing the teaching moment and turning it into the "ah ha moment" when the light bulb goes on, and I see your child understand concepts where they weren't available to him/her before.
In over 25 years of teaching, I've been able to impact my students with the love of learning. I teach math, reading, phonics, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, comprehension, English as a Second Language, test taking skills and study skills.
I emphasize such things as written expression, reading comprehension, vocabulary-building, critical thinking, and logic. (Common Core Curriculum.)
Whether we are working on reading, spelling or math, I assign homework to review the subject taught, and keep the student engaged but not overwhelmed.
I am flexible with time. However, I do have a 24-hour cancellation policy. I am comfortable with tutoring both privately or in a group. I also provide an environment conducive to learning.
I look forward to hearing from you to find out how I can best be of service to meet your needs. Everyone can be successful in their studies and feel good about themselves. Let me help you reach those goals!

Marsha provided me with a detailed evaluation and plan for my kids and from time to time we set together and discussed the next step and she always updated me on the progress and if she has any concern in order to solve it together. Really I notice that my kids records were improved in the schools. I'm highly appreciating her efforts to improve my kids' knowledge. The English language is not their first language and this is first year for them in US.a year ago
Even with the little bit of information I gave her about what my daughter was struggling with, Marsha was fully prepared to work with my daughter and brought along visual math activities. That was very impressive. She was pleasant with my 6 year old, laughing and commending. Within the hour she had a real grasp on what my daughter struggles with and was immediately planning on the next steps to take to help her with her math. My daughter was delighted with her tutor and remarked she couldn't wait for the next lesson. I look forward to continuing in this endeavor and I'm sure I will see great improvement in my daughters work.a year ago
Marsha is extremely helpful and flexible. She makes the work easy to understand before moving on to the next concept. She makes index cards to study and motivates me to be a successful student. I look forward to more sessions with Marsha.a year ago
