Qualifications & Experience

I graduated Tufts University with a Q Econ. degree, which required me to take some high level math classes and to master introductory statistics. I also took some drawing and animation classes, as well as several writing-intensive courses, so I have at least a limited background in a few different subject areas.

I am best equipped to tutor in math or stats, but could also be an English tutor. I could realistically be a pretty solid tutor for standardized tests. I do not have experience in tutoring, but I know I could be of help for younger children and/or elementary school students. I have done some community service in the past with children, including some with disabilities.

I was really nervous to learn how to play chess. It seemed like a very difficult game to me, but even more than that I think a lot of chess players are so competitive that they care more about humiliating their opponent than teaching the game, itself. I never had that issue with Ben. He emphasized to me how the result was less important than discovering different strategies and learning to have fun while playing. I would recommend Ben as a chess tutor for anyone just starting to play, or those who are beginners.

My favorite part of the tutoring sessions was how interactive they were. Ben took the time to go over specific tasks I was having trouble with. I liked that I was able to choose pictures and concepts that I wanted to use - he showed me how to use the tools, but I felt like I had control over the projects we worked on. I would definitely recommend Ben to anyone interested in Photoshop.

Overall I enjoyed learning from Ben (as much as you can enjoy statistics). It was pretty easy to tell that he was genuinely passionate about statistics and was able to explain z-scores and distributions to me without any issue. After his help, I didn't hesitate to go to him any time I had a question specifically related to stats.

I tutored with Ben for my college English class. He helped me write strong essays and worked on character analysis. Ended up with an A-, would recommend.
