Qualifications & Experience

I love tutoring individuals, and have been doing so ever since high school. Collectively, I have taught over 300+ students, across a large variety of age groups, backgrounds and subject matters. I have a Bachelor's of Science in Atmospheric Science from Cornell University , and am currently a graduate student at UCLA tackling environmental sciences and communication. My specialties range from broad environmental sciences to overall advanced mathematics. I also have acquired many skills through my hobbies, such as fluency in Italian and basic to semi-advanced understanding of music theory. Throughout my experiences, I find that communicating knowledge and concepts in an individualized manner helps the pupil grow to the their fullest potential. Therefore, in my instruction I strive to make connections with students to help them achieve their academic and/or personal goals. Thus, whether it be homework questions or just some extra help in the subject matter(s), I can help you.

Matt helped me learn Synoptic Meteorology. I love weather, but math has never been my strong point; Synoptic Meteorology relies heavily on both. In our time studying together, Matt was always openly willing to help myself and others understand the material better. Matt possesses strong skills pertaining to assessing the level of understanding of those with whom he is working, and then implementing different methods - be they verbal, written, or artistic - to help them understand. By doing additional research or taking the time to consult experts on matters, Matt always managed to think through problems, which then allowed him to guide others. This skill - being able to utilize resources - is a hallmark of good tutors and mentors, and I can say with no doubt that Matt excels as such.

What I really thrived off of Matt's teachings was his ability to explain concepts in different ways to different people. He was always aware of the fact that concepts click with people in different ways. He adapts to his audience in the best way possible, by assessing first what makes sense to them, and utilizing those kinds of methods (whether they're visual, graphical, learning from examples, metaphors, etc.) to explain the notions in a manner more suited for his intended audience.

Things make sense to Matt quicker than most. For this reason, he was always ready to explain things to those of us who had had trouble with seeing the concepts first time around. He's quick to notice if something isn't making sense right away to someone and always offers help if he can do so. In my opinion, Matt possesses the skills of the best kind of tutors; helpfulness and understanding students' potential.

Matt was always viewed as the "tutor" of our graduating class in meteorology at Cornell. Whenever we were stuck on a questions, I remember always going to him to ask for help, because I knew he could explain the intricate math and science to me in a way that clicked. If it weren't for him, my homework assignments would have taken much longer to complete, and I highly recommend Matt because of his kindness and his willingness to help others no matter what.
