James Coulter managed the Beverly Hills branch of MATHNASIUM – The Math Learning Center. During his 10 months running the center, he was in charge of managing the learning curriculums of 100+ students that ranged from K-12. The parents at Mathnasium always noticed a positive change in their students’ attitudes, as well as a better mastery of their subjects. James enjoys working with students of all ages, and is well-versed in subjects ranging from basic number facts to Calculus. He has taught fundamentals of math to students of all ages.
He graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a Bachelor’s Degree in Traditional Mathematics, making the Dean’s List his senior year. During his time at WashU, he tutored his fellow math majors in Calculus I, II, III, and Differential Equations. He also tutored St. Louis middle school students in Algebra I and II.
Currently, he tutors college and high school students in Calculus. James’ primary objective is to give confidence back to the student. He believes that any student can be successful in math with the right guidance and a transparent teaching method. He loves meeting new people and reminding them that any math is easy if you learn it properly.
All ages welcome. First session for free!

Jenica Wang During my freshman year at WashU, I took Calculus 1, but struggled to conceptually understand it, as it was my first introduction to calculus. I signed up to retake Calc 1 at UCLA during the summer of 2014. I was introduced to James through a mutual friend, and he helped me excel in the calculus class through. I recommend James for any one-on-one tutoring. He prioritized conceptual understanding over just repeating practice problems (what I was used to!) I went onto minor in Accounting, and was able to excel in Calc II at WashU.2 years ago
My name is Lawrence Chang. I'm a current student of James Coulter's. We've been working through Calc 1 and Calc 2 since September, and we've met every Friday at 11am. He said you needed timesheets, but I can confirm these times. He's a great tutor and I recommend him for anyone who needs tutoring in math. He explains concepts very well and adapts to my specific needs as a student. He's also very positive and encouraging. He told me that you guys wanted a rating and I would give him a 5/5.2 years ago
My son, Jack Adams, is a junior at Thousand Oaks High School, and he was struggling in Calculus 1. We met James through a family friend, and he has been extremely helpful. After meeting every Sunday to practice his work, Jack got a 92 on his last test, and he is very happy. We will continue to work with him for the rest of the semester. Thank you, James!2 years ago
Recently I decided to study for the GRE and needed help with the math section. I worked with James twice a week focusing on the material I needed to cover, and he was able to help a lot. James was great at making complicated concepts extremely easy to grasp and I was able to improve my score significantly. I would give him a 5/5 rating and recommend him to anyone who needs help with math fundamentals.2 years ago
