You know you've done your job when you see an idea click in someone's mind. There's no better feeling than watching a student have that "ah ha!" moment.
I've been tutoring and coaching for years, and I love it. My approach is to keep things simple, find ways to make the content relatable to the age group I'm working with, and have a little fun with it. Rarely if ever does learning have to be about dry recitation. Personally I'm a tactile learner, like many people. So finding ways to use and apply lessons or ideas is key. I'm constantly looking for new opportunities to make learning feel practical.
Growing up I spent a lot of time tutoring my youngest brother, Anthony, who is 13 years younger. He struggled with a learning disability through elementary and middle school, and so I quickly grew to appreciate the value of patience, a little structure, and good humor. It goes a very long way.
I'm passionate about imparting knowledge. I believe it's one of the most important things we can do. And I truly enjoy seeing the difference in a student when they feel (perhaps finally) confident in a new subject.
