I graduated with a B.S. in Biology from UCSD in 2015, and have been enrolled in the Master's program in Molecular Biology since then. I plan to graduate with Master's degree in July and will be attending medical school in the Fall.
I have extensive tutoring experience primarily working with high school students at an organization called Reality Changers, with whom I have worked from 2011 to 2015. I tutored students in a variety of subjects (primarily the sciences - biology, chemistry, physics, psychology - but also math, history, English), helped plan and edit student essays, and did test preparation for finals and AP exams.
As a graduate student, I have served as a teaching assistant (TA) for seven undergraduate-level biology courses: BILD 1 (The Cell), Human Impact on the Environment, Healthy and Diseased Brain, Structural Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Introductory Biology Lab, and Recombinant DNA Techniques Lab. My responsibilities included teaching two one-hour sections of 20 to 30 students each week, generating worksheets and other helpful study aids, holding office hours for students who sought extra help, and helping to proctor and grade exams.
I have a strong passion for the sciences because I am fascinated by how every concept builds on the previous one, and how interconnected the different branches are to one another. Because high school science courses, especially the honors and AP tracks, emphasize breadth over deep knowledge in one particular area of study, it is important to tailor a study plan that hits the basic principles, factors in repetition, and is efficient with the student's time.
My familiarity with many of the sciences at the undergraduate- and graduate-levels will allow me to synthesize information in a way that is easy to understand and easy to remember. In addition, I have a proven track record of adept test preparation for the AP exams, as every high school student I have worked with has passed their AP exams (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). I also have experience helping students plan, write, and edit their papers, as well as college personal statements.
