Qualifications & Experience

Hello,

My name is Matt. I graduated from Duke University with distinction and I scored in the 99th percentile on the SAT. I have worked as a writing consultant and admissions essay editor since 2009, and I have had students admitted to every Ivy League college.

For SAT Critical Reading and Writing, I begin by assessing the student's current level with a diagnostic test. From there, I design a program uniquely suited to help each individual student meet or exceed his or her goals. I work with students on a weekly basis with a focus on areas in which they struggle, including time management and test taking strategies. My students aren't burdened with busy work. Our sessions are productive, lively and effective, and I always alter my approach according to each student's learning style.

As an essay consultant, I am happy to work with applicants at any stage in the process. I focus on helping the student craft an essay that demonstrates his or her unique perspective and voice, with an emphasis on organized, dynamic work. Strong essays can be the difference between a good application and a great one, and I offer assistance for personal statements, short answers, and scholarship materials.

Above all else, I pride myself on patience and understanding. As a graduate from a top 10 university, I know how it feels to be challenged by academics. I take a personal interest in all of my students, and I will do my best to help you achieve all of your academic goals.

I'll never forget the day I got into Duke. I was proud and honored to be accepted to such a renowned institution.

I want to you to experience that same feeling. I want you to reap the benefits of an excellent education, and I want to see you succeed.

Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions, or if you live outside my 8 mile radius. I tutor students from all over Los Angeles, with adjustments to my rates to allow for travel time. I also work with students via Skype, and have ample experience working with students for whom English is a second language.

Matt was a great tutor for my son Joshua. He was patient, which my son needs, and he thinks outside the box. Joshua struggles with focus and Matt was able to work with him to finish his homework, which was great because then I didn't have to do it, hahaha. I think it was good for my son to get some personal attention and I think that is maybe why he struggles in school, so Matt was good for that for sure.

Matthew tutored me English through a library program for two, three months. Matthew was always friendly and kind, also interested in my reasons for learning English (I work with children and need to talk with them better). , He is upbeat and interested in my reasons for learning English. We got along well and had fun during tutoring session.

My son has never been a good reader, and he gets frustrated easy. It took Matt a few sessions, but then we saw improvement. Would have liked if he were available for more meetings each week.

I am actually friends with Matt, but I used him to help get all my grad school application essays ready. He is a great editor, and I got into my top choice school. Yayy! Couldn't have done it without his help. Okay maybe I could have but it would have taken forever and I probably would have gone crazy. : )
